Our Property Management Team Turns 1!

Choosing the right property manager can save a landlord thousands of dollars. At First National Newcastle City, we understand that, and we saw a need in Newcastle for a Property Management team with experience and exceptional relationship-building skills. That is why we started our own Property Management service.

What have we learned from the last year in property management?

It has now been just over a year since we launched our PM division, so we wanted to share with you some of the insights we have gained since starting. We sat down with our dynamic property management duo, Kathryn Macansh and Cathy Simpson to ask for their insights into trends they have noticed over the last 12 months and their predictions for the remainder of 2018.

It has been a year of marked growth for our Property Management team, so we asked the ladies how they make it work so well. “With our combined 56 years of experience in the industry, we have an in-depth understanding of property management and we treat every home as if it were our own” explains Kath.

Kathryn Macansh and Cathy Simpson know how to make the process seamless for their clients.

Cathy smiles as she lets us know that she has one client who refers to her as “old eagle eyes”. When asked why she tells us, “I don’t let anything slip through the cracks. If there’s a spot of mould on the ceiling, I’ll see it and we’ll advise the landlord. This way we can solve problems before they become expensive. I’ve seen property managers in the past ignore these types of things and the homes under their management become ticking timebombs. That’s not going to happen with the homes under First National Newcastle City’s management”.

Kath and Cathy say they work well together because they are complete opposites. Kath is amazing at nurturing relationships and Cathy is process driven with the legal nous to protect their tenants and landlords.

A year of hard work recognised

Kath and Cathy’s hard work was recently recognised when they won the award for “Highest Gain of Properties Under Management” for small offices in Australia at the First National Awards Night earlier this year. But most importantly, we know that Kath and Cathy measure their success on client satisfaction.

Kathryn lets us know that their combined experience has taught them that even the smallest mistakes can cost landlords thousands of dollars, so they ensure that every step of the process is treated with great care. Whether that means conducting last minute inspections outside of business hours so that they can fill a home sooner and save their landlords hundreds of dollars, or organising storage for someone who is downsizing, they will always ensure the job is done the right way.

2018 property trends

As experts on the ground, we asked the ladies what trends they have noticed in the Newcastle market over the last year. “More than ever we have noticed people relocating to Newcastle from elsewhere” Kath says. “In the last week alone, I’ve had someone moving from Townsville to work at the University of Newcastle, a lady working for one of the developers coming from Sydney and another family moving from Melbourne”. Kath says it is the lifestyle that is driving these families to Newcastle, they love how easy life is here.

The Hive Apartments in Wickham are soon to hit the Newcastle rental market.

What’s in store for the rest of 2018?

Finally, we asked the ladies what they see coming for the remainder of 2018. “We have new developments popping up all over Newcastle, with so many beautiful apartments soon to hit the rental market. We have the Hive Apartments in Wickham due for completion soon. We expect these stunning warehouse apartments to be leased quickly as they are reporting that Newcastle’s West End is soon to be the new CBD so it is a very desirable area at the moment”.

The ladies also let us know that there will be apartments hitting the rental market in the Centrale Boutique Apartment complex in September in Broadmeadow and in the Diez complex in Mayfield early next year.
